Much like the recent storm tore through the north-west the night before, City swept the visitors aside at the Etihad Stadium. It was a statement 3-0 win for their manager's side thanks to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a display that truly announced their title credentials as they strengthened their place at the top of the table.

Consecutive Losses for Manchester United

This result signalled back-to-back Women's Super League setbacks for the United manager's side for the first time since last May, putting them seven points off the league leaders with their championship aspirations severely dented.

United’s capability to balance domestic and continental soccer with a small team has been a frequently analyzed issue since they earned a place in the Champions League. Looking at the fixture list, it always appeared this was the matchday that would seriously challenge this capability. Unfortunately for the visitors, they seemed tired throughout, the memorable win against PSG clearly having had an impact.

Team Changes

Previously unable to defeat any side who ended above them the previous campaign, Jeglertz’s side now have wins against the Gunners and Manchester United to position them in a commanding situation after nine games.
