Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
